The ideal of living in the countryside is deeply rooted in Finland. According to the 2023 Rural Barometer, for 62% of Finns, the countryside represents a good life. Yet an increasing number of us live in cities. The share of city dwellers in the population has increased by ten percent in three decades. In 2023, almost three quarters of Finns lived in urban areas.
